Velika Gorica launches food‑waste survey to curb household waste

More than 480,000 tonnes of food waste are generated annually in Croatia, with nearly 46 % coming from households. The city of Velika Gorica and the development agency VEGORA are asking residents to complete an online questionnaire about their purchasing, storage and consumption habits.

The survey is part of a study coordinated by Zagreb County and the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Agriculture. Collected data will feed recommendations under the municipality’s Voluntary Agreement on food‑waste reduction, supporting actions such as public education, informational material production, school collaborations, food‑donation initiatives and a waste‑tracking system. These measures aim to help Velika Gorica obtain a Zero Waste certification and lower overall food‑waste volumes.
