Velika Gorica pilgrims begin 35th annual trek to Marija Bistrica
Pilgrims from Velika Gorica are undertaking their 35th annual pilgrimage to the shrine in Marija Bistrica. The group began the 42-kilometer journey on foot early Saturday morning, departing from the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
According to Reverend Norbert Ivan Koprivec, participation in the event remains strong, with recent years seeing approximately 3,000 participants. The route passes through Rakarje, Kobilić, Šćitarjevo, Soblinc, Kašina, and Laz. The pilgrimage is described as a spiritual renewal marking the beginning of the new school and academic year.
Upon arrival at the shrine at 6:00 PM, a central mass will be celebrated by the Bishop of Sisak, Monsignor Vlado Košić. Organizers have provided medical assistance, including an ambulance, and security personnel to support the walkers throughout the trek.
