Veliko Selo wastewater treatment plant construction postponed

The construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Veliko Selo has been postponed again, according to the organization ‘Beograd u pokretu’. The delay follows a republic budget rebalance that effectively eliminated the 2 billion dinar fund originally allocated for the project.

Without the facility, which was intended to treat approximately 85 percent of Belgrade’s sewage system, untreated wastewater will continue to flow into the Sava and Danube rivers. Ivan Komarica of ‘Beograd u pokretu’ criticized the city's inability to fund essential infrastructure independently, alleging that while communal services are increasing in price, funds are being diverted to other projects and non-transparent contracts.

The organization emphasized that despite Belgrade having a budget exceeding 200 billion dinars, the lack of funding for this critical project prevents the city from meeting the standards of a modern European capital.
