Veliko Tarnovo real estate market shifts toward furnished homes

Real estate brokers in the Veliko Tarnovo region report a significant shift in buyer preferences, with a growing demand for fully finished and preferably furnished apartments. This trend emerges as buyers increasingly avoid new constructions that require extensive renovation or older properties needing major repairs.

The primary driver for this change is the sharp rise in the costs of construction materials, labor, and furniture. Buyers are finding that the additional expenses required to make a property livable can add tens of thousands of euros to the initial purchase price.

National data supports these local observations, showing that construction costs rose by 9.6 percent in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period the previous year. Additionally, domestic prices for construction materials increased by 10 percent, while overall housing prices in Bulgaria saw a 14.8 percent year-on-year increase in the first quarter of 2026.
