Velké Březno brewery to close after 273 years of production
The Velké Březno brewery in the Czech Republic is ceasing production at its current site after 273 years of brewing operations. While the brewery's roots date back to 1606, beer has been brewed at this specific location since 1753.
Heineken Czech Republic, which has owned the brewery since 2008, cited declining beer consumption in the country and rising costs for energy and raw materials as the primary reasons for the shutdown. Production had already been gradually reduced throughout 2026.
The Březňák beer brand will be preserved, but its manufacturing will be transferred to other breweries within the Heineken group. The site will continue to host the company's logistics and sales divisions.
