Vellore church construction collapse kills three labourers

Three labourers were killed and 11 others injured after the roof of a Church of South India building under construction collapsed in the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. The incident occurred at Mandi Krishnapuram, near Katpadi, while workers were pouring concrete for the roof.

According to officials, a 20-foot steel scaffolding and support framework suddenly failed, trapping workers under heavy concrete debris. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Arakkonam joined local police and fire services to conduct rescue operations.

The injured were transported to hospitals in Vellore and Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. Vellore District Collector P S Leela Alex stated that a committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the structural failure and to determine if the builder had obtained the necessary construction permits.
