Velventos hosts multilingual educational program for refugee minors

In celebration of the European Day of Languages, an educational initiative titled ‘An Ecological Approach Towards Inclusive Multilingual Teaching’ was held in Velventos on September 25, 2026. The program was organized by the Velventos K.E.P.E.A., the Association of English Teachers of Western Macedonia (EKADYMA), and the ‘Social EKAV – Nefeli 3’ hosting structure for unaccompanied minors.

The activity involved unaccompanied refugee students from Sudan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Afghanistan, and Senegal, alongside educators and caregivers. The initiative aimed to demonstrate how linguistic and cultural diversity can serve as tools for learning and connection rather than barriers. Participants engaged in collaborative activities in a natural environment, using technology such as Google Lens to identify local flora while sharing words and cultural perspectives from their native languages.

This practical application follows a professional development workshop conducted by the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) in Florina earlier in September. The project sought to translate theoretical knowledge regarding multilingual classrooms into hands-on pedagogical practice.
