Venaria Reale to host Italian cinematic costume exhibition

Venaria Reale will host an exhibition titled ‘Regine in scena. L’arte del costume italiano tra cinema e teatro’ from April 17 to September 6, 2026. Curated by Massimo Cantini Parrini, the exhibition explores how Italian costume design has shaped the cinematic image of queens as symbols of power, authority, and myth.

The display features a selection of iconic costumes from film history, including Marie Antoinette from Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film, Medea from Pasolini’s 1969 production, and the Queen of Selvascura from ‘Il racconto dei racconti’. These garments, created by historic sartorial ateliers, illustrate the intersection of historical reality and cinematic fantasy.

In a separate cultural context, Venice prepares for the 83rd Venice International Film Festival from September 2 to 12, 2026. The festival, directed by Alberto Barbera, continues its tradition of being a significant global cinematic event and a historical site for high-profile cultural encounters, reminiscent of past celebrity connections in the city.
