Venco Filipce warns North Macedonia's debt could reach 12 billion euros
SDSM President Venco Filipce has criticized the government of Hristijan Mickoski, claiming that current economic policies are driving the country toward a financial abyss. In an interview with Alsat TV, Filipce warned that new borrowing of 1.3 billion euros will cause the total national debt to rise from 8 billion to 12 billion euros within three years.
Filipce stated that the state may eventually reach a point where it cannot even cover interest payments, leaving a heavy burden for future generations. He highlighted significant budget deficits, noting that approximately 1 billion euros are missing from the state budget and another 1 billion euros are lacking in the pension insurance fund.
Furthermore, the SDSM leader criticized the government for rejecting proposals to improve living standards, specifically mentioning the rejection of a proposal to increase the minimum wage to 600 euros. He argued that citizens are struggling with high prices and low wages, leading to increased social dissatisfaction.
