Vendas Novas approves ten-year housing strategy
The Vendas Novas Municipal Council has unanimously approved the Municipal Housing Charter, a strategic document outlining housing priorities for the next ten years. The plan aims to increase housing supply, improve access to affordable solutions, and address challenges driven by local economic dynamics.
A diagnostic of the region's housing situation identified rising median sale prices per square meter, approximately 1,000 vacant properties, and nearly 2,000 homes requiring repair or conservation. To address these issues, the action plan is divided into two periods: 2026–2029 and 2030–2036.
Key initiatives include promoting controlled-cost housing and affordable rentals, rehabilitating existing stock, mobilizing vacant properties, and establishing partnerships with public and private entities. Specific projects mentioned include municipal developments in São Domingos Sávio and Foro Perdido, housing operations in Bairro Álvaro Cunhal, and new affordable rental constructions near the intersection of Rua Custódio Santana and Rua Alexandre Braga.
