Vendas Novas hosts large-scale culinary and charity events

Vendas Novas is hosting a series of culinary events as part of its municipal festivities from September 4 to 7. A major highlight scheduled for September 5 is the attempt to create the ‘Largest Bifana with Cheese in the World,’ a sandwich approximately 20 meters in length. This initiative involves local bakeries, traditional bifana houses, and the brand Castelões, which is providing cheese for the event.

The festivities will also feature a charity initiative titled ‘1,000 Solidary Bifanas.’ Visitors can contribute to the Portuguese League Against Cancer (Southern Regional Nucleus) by purchasing tickets for the sandwiches, with a minimum donation of one euro per unit. All proceeds will be donated to the institution to support oncology services, prevention, and research. The preparation of these thousand sandwiches will be carried out by six traditional local establishments on September 6.

Additional programming includes a showcooking by Chef Hélio Loureiro, musical performances by Bárbara Tinoco, and a competition to elect the ‘King and Queen of the Bifana’ based on eating speed.
