Veneto advances Next-Generation 112 emergency infrastructure

The Veneto region is advancing the implementation of the European Emergency Number 112 (NUE 112) through the introduction of Next-Generation 112 technology. This digital infrastructure aims to create a more modern, integrated, and faster system for managing emergency calls and dispatching aid.

Under the new model, a single number will direct callers to a Unified Response Center (CUR), which then identifies and routes the request to the appropriate service, such as medical, Carabinieri, State Police, or Firefighters. This system is designed to handle high volumes of simultaneous calls more flexibly than traditional telephone lines.

Regional President Alberto Stefani stated that while the project is targeting 2028 for full implementation, investments are being made immediately to improve safety and service quality. Current regional emergency response times for medical assistance average under 18 minutes.

Development is moving into a procurement phase, with the next steps involving the preparation of technical specifications and the launch of tenders. Additionally, the design of two new response centers is underway, with locations confirmed in Venice and Verona.
