Veneto approves regional law to support family caregivers

The Veneto Regional Council has unanimously approved a new regional law aimed at the recognition, valorization, and support of family caregivers. The bipartisan measure, known as Bill No. 81, was proposed by Chiara Luisetto and supported by Regional President Alberto Stefani.

The legislation addresses the growing challenge of non-self-sufficiency caused by an aging population. In Veneto, estimates suggest there are approximately 156,000 non-self-sufficient individuals over the age of 80. While some elderly residents reside in nursing homes, the vast majority receive care at home, often provided by family members—predominantly women—who frequently sacrifice professional and personal lives to provide assistance.
