Veneto healthcare union calls for corruption prevention amid budget deficit
The UIL FP union in Veneto is calling for increased oversight to prevent corruption following a reported deficit of approximately 517.8 million euros in the region's 2025 healthcare budget. Stefano Gottardi, General Secretary of UIL FP Veneto, stated that while the union does not accuse the regional healthcare system of systemic wrongdoing, the financial deficit necessitates stronger control mechanisms to ensure resources are not lost to mismanagement or improper spending.
The union is urging the region and healthcare agencies to incorporate specific anti-corruption measures into their 2027 organizational plans. These measures should align with national guidelines from ANAC, focusing on four key areas: waiting lists and private practice within public facilities, facility accreditation procedures, relationships with the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, and conflicts of interest. Additionally, the union has requested periodic reports on the implementation of these measures and the establishment of a regional discussion table by autumn 2026.
