Veneto region approves new public transport basins

The Veneto regional council has approved a redefinition of territorial basins for local public transport, marking the first step following a sector reform passed earlier. The measure aims to build a more efficient, modern system that aligns services with actual citizen mobility patterns by reorganising managing entities and improving resource planning.

New basins will include a Rovigo‑Verona basin covering both automotive and rail services, a Padova‑Vicenza‑Treviso basin integrating bus and tram networks across the three provinces, and a continued autonomous basin for Belluno that retains full control of its urban and extra‑urban bus services. Venice will keep a specific configuration that combines road, tram and lagoon navigation services. Regional transport assessor Diego Ruzza highlighted the proposal as a “courageous” step based on mobility flow analysis, while Belluno’s regional mountain assessor Dario Bond praised the decision for recognising the province’s unique geographic and demographic needs.
