Veneto region launches digital citizenship campaign for youth

The Veneto region has announced 'Fuori dagli schermi' (Outside the Screens), an institutional campaign designed to educate young people and parents on the responsible use of social networks, artificial intelligence, and online information. The initiative, presented by Regional President Alberto Stefani, aims to establish 'digital pacts' within all 559 municipalities in the region.

The program will involve a series of meetings, workshops, and events held in public squares, streets, and schools to encourage physical social interaction alongside digital literacy. This approach addresses concerns regarding the pervasive use of smartphones and the integration of generative algorithms into students' study habits.

In Venice, discussions held at the Procuratie Vecchie highlighted the challenges posed by new technologies. Participants, including local officials and experts, debated the risks of digital dependency and considered potential measures, such as restricting social media access for children under 14, to protect the personal growth and human relationships of younger generations.
