Veneto Region suspends funding for climate change book

The Veneto Region has suspended a 29,500 euro funding allocation for a book regarding climate change intended for high school students in the province of Belluno. Regional Environment Councilor Elisa Venturini announced the decision following criticism from political figures, academics, and scientific organizations, including the Italian Geological Society, regarding the theories presented in the text.

The manual, which compiles contributions from a conference held last October, includes work by notable figures such as the president of the Geologists of Veneto, Giorgio Giacchetti. While the regional government has frozen the funds pending verification, the Belluno municipal administration has stated it does not intend to withdraw the volume. Local officials have expressed a willingness to host further discussions to address different scientific perspectives.

Additionally, the Department of Humanities and Arts (DAIS) at Ca' Foscari University of Venice has expressed concern regarding the contents of the volume, titled ‘Climate Change: Scenarios, Challenges, Solutions’.
