Venice prison inmate escapes during facility pest control operations

Several law enforcement actions and security breaches have been reported across Italy. In Venice, a 33-year-old Romanian inmate serving time for robbery escaped from the Santa Maria Maggiore prison by climbing over the perimeter wall. The escape occurred during ongoing pest control operations involving the movement of inmates between sections, which prison unions like SAPPE have criticized as a security vulnerability caused by overcrowding and staffing shortages.

In other regions, authorities have carried out several deportations and arrests. A Moroccan national was expelled from Avellino following the denial of international protection and a history of local offenses. An Indian national was repatriated to New Delhi after being located in Pordenone. Additionally, a Peruvian man was arrested in Ancona for violating a three-year re-entry ban.

In Bassano del Grappa, a 35-year-old man was sent to prison after repeatedly violating house arrest terms. Meanwhile, in Salerno, prison police intercepted a man attempting to launch two packages into the prison sports field, leading to his arrest.
