Venezuela advances in agricultural biotechnology and medical technology
Venezuela is seeing advancements in both agricultural biotechnology and medical technology. The Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC) will present its findings at ExpoAvisa 2026 in Maracay. Key research includes using symbiotic mixtures to reduce stress in broiler chickens, utilizing black soldier fly larvae as a protein alternative, and developing climate-resilient pastures through precision biotechnology.
In the medical sector, engineers from the National Center for Telecommunications Development and Research (Cendit) have developed the country’s first domestic electrocautery prototype. Minister of Science and Technology Yván Gil stated the device uses an electric arc to cut tissue and coagulate blood vessels simultaneously, aiming to reduce reliance on imports. The prototype is currently undergoing testing for veterinary use.
