Venezuela advances power grid upgrades with Chinese plant visit and US dam inspection

Vice President Delcy Rodríguez inspected the Central Thermoelectric Plant Centro in Puerto Cabello, Carabobo, where Chinese firm Machinery Engineering Corporation is carrying out modernization work. The visit was part of a plan to add 4,800 MW of thermoelectric capacity by the end of the year, following damage from recent earthquakes.

A team of experts from the U.S. Department of Energy also inspected the Simón Bolívar hydroelectric dam at Guri, Bolívar state, to define a technical route for modernising Venezuela’s electricity system. The mission was coordinated with Venezuela’s Ministry of Energy and the state utility Corpoelec, and is intended to support broader recovery of the national power grid.
