Venezuelan airlines adjust routes amid post‑earthquake airport closures

Air Europa announced the cancellation of several Spain‑Venezuela flights, including Madrid‑Valencia services on 17, 19, 24, 26 and 31 July and Madrid‑Caracas flights on 7 and 14 August, citing “limitaciones operativas en Valencia (Venezuela)” after the June earthquakes forced the closure of Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía. The carrier offered free re‑booking, route changes to Medellín, Bogotá or Panama, travel vouchers or refunds.

American Airlines launched a daily nonstop Miami‑Maracaibo flight (AA 4325) on 14 July, becoming the only U.S. carrier with a direct Venezuelan route while its Caracas services remain suspended. The airline said it “planea reanudar sus operaciones” to Caracas once the main airport reopens.

Avior Airlines disclosed new direct services to Curaçao from Barcelona and Maracaibo beginning 22 July, with flights twice weekly. A Portuguese‑language report added that Avior will also operate Curaçao flights from 16 July, pricing tickets from $190.

The government of Aruba confirmed a weekly commercial flight to Venezuela will start in August, following a humanitarian mission announced on 24 June. All these adjustments stem from the magnitude‑7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes on 24 June that killed more than 4,500 people and disrupted Venezuela’s air‑transport infrastructure.
