Simón Bolívar International Airport resumes partial operations in Venezuela

Venezuela’s Simón Bolívar International Airport has partially resumed commercial operations following damage caused by twin earthquakes on June 24. The airport is currently utilizing temporary modular terminals to facilitate travel, with a capacity of approximately 2,168 passengers per day.

Transport Minister Francisco Garcés reported that aviation operations have reached 49% for domestic flights and 46% for international flights. The airline Conviasa has activated 19 routes, including destinations such as Porlamar, Maracaibo, and international locations like Havana, Mexico, and Saint Lucia. Additionally, Aeropostal Alas de Venezuela has expanded its domestic network, connecting Maracaibo with Caracas and Porlamar.

Travelers using the temporary facilities face modified procedures, including bus transfers between aircraft and the terminal, and navigating logistics tents equipped with air conditioning and medical services. Authorities aim to increase operations to 40% in the coming months and reach 60% by the end of the year or early 2027.
