Venezuela and India partner to modernize zoos and build wildlife hospital

Venezuela and India have signed a memorandum of understanding to modernize Venezuela’s public zoo network and enhance wildlife conservation efforts. The agreement, signed by Venezuelan officials and the India-based Greens Center (an operational entity of the Vantara global initiative), focuses on technical assistance, specialized equipment, and professional training.

A major component of the partnership is the construction of a specialized wildlife and domestic animal hospital, an aquarium, and a conservation center in La Guaira. This infrastructure project, covering approximately 11,000 square meters, will include diagnostic units, operating rooms, laboratories, and academic classrooms to support research and veterinary practice.

The cooperation includes a five-year academic exchange program where Venezuelan veterinarians, biologists, and caregivers will receive specialized training at Vantara facilities in India. Initial efforts to strengthen existing facilities will prioritize the El Pinar and Caricuao zoos in Caracas.
