Venezuela and Mexico push constitutional reforms on judiciary and inclusive language

In Venezuela, lawmaker Marta Esquivel presented a constitutional amendment that would change how substitute magistrates for the Constitutional Chamber are chosen, moving the selection from a list prepared by the judiciary to a direct vote by the National Assembly. Legal experts argue the proposal conflicts with the current constitution and it faces opposition from the judiciary and other political factions.

In Mexico, the state legislature of Zacatecas approved a draft decree to amend the state constitution by adding provisions on inclusive language. The amendment was declared approved after most of the 58 municipalities either endorsed it within the legal deadline or failed to respond, with only one municipality voting against the change.
