Venezuela and United States discuss bilateral energy agenda

Interim President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, met on 12 June 2026 with a delegation from the United States, including Business‑Envoy John Barrett, senior energy policy adviser Toby Deen and acting Deputy Secretary of Energy Andrew Rapp. The talks focused on reviewing the bilateral energy agenda, emphasizing cooperation in oil production, market stability and investment.

Venezuelan officials present included Hydrocarbons Minister Paula Henao, PDVSA President Héctor Obregón, Vice‑President for the Economy sector Calixto Ortega, Executive Vice‑President Jovanny Martínez and Vice‑Minister Oliver Blanco. The meeting followed the formal restoration of diplomatic and consular relations on 5 March 2026.

U.S. officials highlighted that Venezuelan oil exports have risen to 1.25 million barrels per day – the highest level in seven years – and that production grew 27.6 % from January to May 2026, according to OPEC data. United Nations projections estimate Venezuela’s oil‑export revenue could exceed US$22 billion in 2026, more than 50 % above the previous year’s earnings.
