Venezuela announces new Liga Superior de Baloncesto

The Venezuelan Ministry of Sport and the Venezuelan Basketball Federation (FVB) have announced the creation of the Liga Superior de Baloncesto. This new professional competition aims to establish a stable and sustainable tournament to support the development of the sport in the country.

The inaugural season, titled the ‘Copa Venezuela Renace’, is scheduled to run from September to December. Notably, the league will feature rosters composed exclusively of local Venezuelan players. The tournament will serve as a complement to the Superliga Profesional de Baloncesto, which continues to operate during the first half of the year.

Ten organizations will participate in the first edition: Marinos de Anzoátegui, Cocodrilos de Caracas, Guaiqueríes de Margarita, Trotamundos de Carabobo, Gaiteros del Zulia, Pioneros del Ávila, Spartans de Distrito Capital, Piratas de La Guaira, Hidrocarburos de Caracas, and Costaneros de Puerto Cabello.

Revenue generated from the competition will be allocated to assist individuals affected by the seismic events recorded in Venezuela on June 24.
