Venezuela appoints new ambassadors to Portugal and Belgium

The Venezuelan National Assembly has approved the appointment of new ambassadors to several European missions. Juan Carlos Fernandes Juárez, a Venezuelan official with Portuguese heritage, has been designated as the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Portugal.

Additionally, Raúl LiCausi, formerly the Vice Minister for the Caribbean, has been appointed as the ambassador to Belgium. LiCausi will also serve as the diplomatic representative to Luxembourg and as the head of Venezuela’s mission to the European Union.

Legislators noted that the appointment of Fernandes to Portugal comes as the two nations mark 113 years of diplomatic relations. The move is described by officials as part of an effort to normalize and build more pragmatic ties with European nations through mutual respect and international law.
