Venezuela launches infrastructure rehabilitation plan after June earthquakes
Following the double earthquakes on June 24, Venezuela has launched extensive rehabilitation efforts through the 'Plan Venezuela Renace'. Jacqueline Faría, president of the plan, reported that over 52,664 buildings have been inspected across seven affected states, with 59% receiving a 'green label' certifying them as safe and habitable. In La Guaira, 15,888 inspections were completed, resulting in 58% green labels, 23% yellow, and 18% red classifications.
Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has overseen the delivery of 102 rehabilitated homes in the San Bernardino parish of Caracas, benefiting 403 people. Additional housing support includes the delivery of 40 homes in La Guaira and 30 in the 23 de Enero parish. The government is also providing financing to 27 condominium boards and 400 individual homeowners to facilitate repairs.
Educational infrastructure is a priority, with a new School Reconstruction Plan activated to rehabilitate 1,000 damaged facilities. This includes the use of 'Bricomiles' to address repairs, with a target of completing work on 102 schools with minor damage within six weeks. The Fe y Alegría educational system reported significant impact, including 33 deaths and damage to 73 centers. Additionally, structural shoring has commenced at the Caracas Cathedral to protect the historic monument.
