Venezuela implements new security plan and receives Dutch Ambassador

Venezuelan acting President Delcy Rodríguez has announced a major restructuring of national security, centered on the elimination of urban police checkpoints (alcabalas) in favor of a dynamic, mobile patrolling system. The initiative aims to modernize public safety, facilitate free movement, and reduce corruption and human rights abuses associated with fixed control points. High-ranking officials, including Diosdado Cabello and military leadership, participated in planning the transition to this preventive patrolling model.

In diplomatic developments, Rodríguez received the credentials of Carmen Gonsalves, the new Ambassador of the Netherlands to Venezuela, signaling a move toward normalizing bilateral relations. Additionally, Rodríguez met with Álvaro Rodríguez, the new UN Resident Coordinator, to discuss strengthening cooperation between the Venezuelan state and the United Nations, particularly regarding sustainable development and social protection following recent seismic events.

While government officials and the Attorney General have expressed support for the security reforms, human rights organizations like Provea have cautioned that the measure may fail to address deep-seated corruption unless structural reforms are implemented.
