Venezuela Boosts AI Presence and Power Capacity with New International Partnerships

Venezuela sent a high‑level delegation to the World AI Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, China, led by Vice President for Science, Technology, Education and Health Isabel Iturria. Minister Yván Gil highlighted the country’s commitment to ethical, transparent AI development and equitable access for the Global South.

The government also signed strategic agreements with Russia’s INSA and U.S. firm General Electric to restore and add a total of 7,400 MW to the national electricity system over the next four years. The deals include reactivating the Tocoma hydroelectric plant, upgrading the Macagua complex, and installing new GE‑based capacity, an amount that represents roughly half of Venezuela’s current generation.

These moves aim to strengthen Venezuela’s technological profile internationally while stabilizing domestic power supply for households and industry.
