Venezuela business groups propose private sector coordination for earthquake aid
Fedecámaras has proposed that international aid following the June earthquakes in Venezuela be coordinated directly with the private sector to ensure effective economic reactivation. The business federation noted that international mobilization has exceeded $240 million, and the United Nations' 2026 Humanitarian Response Plan expanded its budget for the country to $931 million following an emergency addendum for the seismic crisis.
Business leaders argue that strategic alliances with the national productive fabric are necessary to guarantee logistical efficiency during reconstruction. This coordination aims to allow humanitarian assistance to address social shocks while companies focus on maintaining operational continuity and business sustainability in affected areas.
Separately, Consecomercio has adjusted its macroeconomic projections, forecasting economic growth of between 4% and 5% for the end of 2026. This is a reduction from the 10% projected earlier this year, attributed to slowing sales in the second half of the year, contraction in bank credit, and persistent national electricity supply failures.
