Sahagún faces loss of 156,137 euro subsidy due to delays

The political formation Unión del Pueblo Leonés (UPL) has warned that the municipality of Sahagún is at risk of losing a subsidy totaling 156,137.38 euros. The funds, originating from the 2023 Provincial Plan for Municipal Cooperation of the Diputación de León, must be executed by October 31, 2026.

UPL spokesperson Adrián Paniagua criticized the municipal government, led by Mayor Paula Conde, for failing to begin works three years after the subsidy was granted. The delay in publishing the tender, which only occurred in June 2026, has left insufficient time to complete the five-month execution period required by the contract.

The intended investments were meant to improve infrastructure and paving in Sahagún and its surrounding areas, including Joara, Villalebrín, Riosequillo, and Celada de Cea. UPL also noted that rising construction material costs have made the initial budget less attractive to contractors, further complicating the procurement process.
