Venezuela denounces impact of economic sanctions on global food security at UN

Venezuela's ambassador to the United Nations, Coromoto Godoy, has denounced the impact of unilateral coercive measures and economic sanctions on global food security. Speaking during a UN Security Council high-level open debate titled ‘Food Under Fire: The Role of the Security Council in Mitigating Global and Local Food Crises,’ Godoy argued that these economic barriers exacerbate food insecurity by deepening economic crises, restricting financial flows, increasing import costs, and limiting access to essential agricultural inputs.

Godoy stated that international trade restrictions and protectionist economic measures jeopardize the lives of millions and hinder global development goals. The Venezuelan delegation emphasized the need to eradicate economic blockades to guarantee the right to food and called for transforming current challenges into opportunities to build a world without hunger.
