Venezuela seeks recovery of gold reserves held at Bank of England
The Venezuelan government is prioritizing the recovery of gold reserves held at the Bank of England to fund national reconstruction efforts following significant seismic activity on June 24. The reserves, valued at approximately US$ 4 billion, include 31 metric tons of gold that the Bank of England has long refused to release.
Following discussions between the National Government and the National Assembly, delegations have agreed to promote the recovery of these international reserve assets. Jorge Rodríguez, President of the National Assembly, stated that once the assets are recovered, the government will establish mechanisms for transparency, traceability, and auditing to ensure the funds are used efficiently for the welfare of those affected by recent disasters.
