Venezuela aviation sees domestic flight drop amid rising international routes

Venezuela is experiencing a divergent trend in its aviation sector, characterized by a significant contraction in domestic flights alongside an increase in international connectivity. According to a report by ALAV, domestic flights fell by 32.5% between May and October, dropping from 535 to 361 weekly operations due to fleet restrictions and contingency conditions.

In contrast, international flights rose to 178 per week. Major routes include Bogotá, Miami, and Madrid. Copa Airlines is actively expanding its presence in the country, increasing frequencies from its Panama hub. By December, the airline expects to reach 48 weekly flights to Venezuela, including increased service to Barcelona and Barquisimeto, while maintaining 14 weekly frequencies to Valencia.

Currently, 19 airlines are active in the country, consisting of eight national and 11 international carriers. The international network connects Venezuela to destinations across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
