Venezuela earthquake death toll exceeds 4,500 as relief and rebuilding efforts expand
Official figures released by the Venezuelan government show that the twin earthquakes of 24 June have killed more than 4,500 people, with the latest counts ranging from 4,490 to 4,561 deaths. Around 16,740 people were injured and roughly 20,000 remain in 107 temporary camps across Caracas, La Guaira and other affected areas.
The disaster displaced over 19,000 families, prompting a large‑scale humanitarian response. International teams from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Spain and other nations have set up field hospitals and medical clinics to treat respiratory, gastrointestinal and mental‑health issues. Russia delivered a cargo of medical supplies, while the U.S. Embassy distributed 100,000 aid kits.
Venezuelan authorities, led by National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez, announced plans to allocate newly built apartments, designate more than 40 plots of land in La Guaira for housing, and conduct a biometric census of the homeless to guide reconstruction. Over 30,000 volunteers and nearly 2,500 foreign rescuers are involved in the ongoing recovery operations.
