Venezuela earthquake relief aid declines in La Guaira

Humanitarian aid for victims of the double earthquake that struck Venezuela in June is declining, despite ongoing housing shortages and health crises in the La Guaira state. Maria Fátima Garcês, academic vice-rector of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), warned that while aid from countries like Portugal and Colombia has been maintained, overall assistance to the most damaged region has decreased significantly.

Many residents remain without homes or have been unable to repair their dwellings. The UCV is working to address these issues by helping the population find alternative income sources, such as fishing and agriculture, to replace lost tourism revenue. The university is also seeking new partnerships to support the region, as the difficult situation is expected to persist for more than a year.
