Argentina rescue teams and Italian Red Cross support Venezuelan earthquake relief

On 24 June 2026, Venezuela was struck by two major earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5, killing more than 5,000 people, injuring over 16,000 and leaving tens of thousands homeless. The disaster prompted an international humanitarian response.

The Italian Red Cross, in coordination with the Venezuelan embassy in Rome, pledged additional relief materials, the establishment of an Advanced Medical Post and a field hospital to serve the affected regions. The organization also highlighted its participation in fundraising events to support the aid effort.

Argentina has dispatched several contingents of rescuers and medical staff. To date, around 300 Argentine volunteers have travelled to Venezuela, including a latest group of 23 rescue specialists from the Cuerpo de Evacuación y Primeros Auxilios (CEPA) and Fénix Unit Rescue, four doctors from the Asociación de Médicos Venezolanos en Argentina, and a legal adviser. Their mission focuses on locating victims trapped under rubble, providing primary medical care within temporary camps, and preventing disease outbreaks among displaced families. The Argentine government continues to send K9 units, veterinary staff and supplies, while maintaining a consular humanitarian presence for Argentine citizens in Venezuela.
