Venezuela earthquake relief drives events in Argentina and Ibero‑American film community

Powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela on 24 June 2026, causing 5,546 deaths, at least 16,740 injuries and leaving about 17,907 people homeless. The disaster has devastated families and also severely impacted the country’s audiovisual sector.

In response, Argentine actress Catherine Fulop organized a charity “Arepazo solidario” at the Chacaito restaurant in Buenos Aires on 9 August, with all proceeds pledged to the nonprofit Cocinando por Venezuela to support families in shelters. She said, “A month after the earthquakes, thousands of families still need help.” At the same time, the Ibero‑American Federation of Academies of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences (FIACINE) launched an international fundraising campaign and a special edition of the showcase “Nuestras raíces, nuestros ojos” to provide financial aid to Venezuelan audiovisual workers whose lives and work were disrupted by the quakes.
