Venezuela earthquake relief sees Argentine rescuers and Cuban medical team on the ground

A double earthquake that struck central Venezuela in late June left more than 5,500 dead and 16,000 injured, prompting a large‑scale humanitarian response.

Argentina dispatched a contingent of Army engineers led by Lieutenant Colonel Gustavo Errobidart. Arriving three days after the quakes, the team conducted search‑and‑rescue operations in collapsed buildings, rescuing families and using a trained dog to locate survivors amid aftershocks and disrupted supplies.

Cuba sent the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade, composed of neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, orthopedists and other specialists. The brigade set up three medical centers to treat injuries ranging from trauma to complex surgeries, continuing a decades‑long tradition of international disaster assistance.
