Venezuela earthquake: Teacher mourns loss of over 200 students

Teacher Madeleine Cova is mourning the loss of more than 200 students following a double earthquake that struck northern Venezuela on June 24. Cova, who taught Spanish and Literature at the Alejandro Otero private school and served as a coordinator at the Juan José Mendoza public high school in La Guaira, describes her experience as a profound state of grief.

La Guaira was the most devastated state during the seismic events. According to government information, the earthquakes resulted in more than 6,500 deaths, while other sources estimate that thousands remain missing. Cova expressed the deep emotional bond she shared with her students, noting that she continues to honor their memory through music and social media, and maintains contact with grieving parents to offer mutual consolation.
