Venezuela earthquakes kill hundreds, including nine Portuguese nationals FAST-MOVING

A sequence of earthquakes in Venezuela has caused hundreds of deaths and left thousands of people injured or missing. The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that nine Portuguese nationals or Lusodescendents are among the fatalities.

Among the victims is a family with roots in Madeira: Eleana Pires, 45, and her two daughters, Patrícia Muller Pires, 14, and Verónica Muller de Pires, 17. The deaths have caused significant concern within the Portuguese and Madeiran communities, which maintain strong historical and familial ties to Venezuela.

Additionally, Hermínia Pinto de Fernandes, a well-known Portuguese resident in La Guaira, reported losing her right arm in the disaster. Having lost her brother in the tragedy, she is preparing to return to Madeira to seek assistance and rebuild her life.
