Venezuela reports agricultural growth amid rising electricity demand

Venezuela is navigating a complex period of economic and infrastructural challenges. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez reported a 4.19% increase in national agricultural production, specifically in the vegetable, animal protein, and fishing sectors.

However, the country faces significant pressure on its electrical grid. Electricity demand recently reached 16,424 megawatts, a level comparable to 2017. Officials attribute this surge to a combination of economic activity and extreme temperatures driven by the El Niño phenomenon. To mitigate potential shortages, the government has called for energy conservation and is working on infrastructure projects, including the installation of spare parts for the TZ7 unit at the Termozulia Plant, which is expected to add 150 MW to the system.

On the political front, Rodríguez stated at the United Nations that Venezuela is initiating a process of democratic transformation aimed at returning to institutional stability and holding future elections.
