Venezuela: Trump and Rodríguez signal elections are not yet ready

U.S. President Donald Trump and Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodríguez have both stated that Venezuela is not yet prepared to hold democratic elections. Trump noted that the political transition is very recent following the capture of Nicolás Maduro in January, while Rodríguez emphasized that elections will occur only when the country is fully prepared.

In Caracas, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright met with the interim government to finalize significant energy agreements. These deals grant the United States control over the exploitation of 17 oil fields, representing approximately one-fifth of Venezuela's crude reserves. The agreements also include cooperation with companies like Chevron, Eni, and General Electric to boost oil production and modernize the national electric system.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that a new round of facilitated negotiations between the interim government and the Venezuelan opposition is expected to begin within approximately ten days to continue the political transition process.
