Venezuela electricity shortages disrupt daily life and businesses

Frequent and unpredictable electricity shortages are significantly disrupting daily life and commerce across much of Venezuela. Outside of Caracas, power outages have become a routine occurrence, often lasting more than six hours without a fixed schedule.

In states like Táchira, the instability has forced small business owners to abandon their trades. For example, artisanal ice cream producers in San Cristóbal have been compelled to close or change their business models because they cannot maintain the constant refrigeration required for their products. In other regions, such as Carabobo, the lack of planning regarding outages makes it difficult for service providers, such as yoga instructors, to maintain consistent schedules.

In response to the energy crisis, the government has implemented energy-saving measures. This includes establishing special hours for public administration, with some institutions reducing their work schedules to a maximum of three days per week to conserve electricity.
