Venezuela ends shrimp fishing ban in Miranda and Anzoátegui

The shrimp fishing ban for the traditional “Red Chica” method is set to conclude on November 1 in the Venezuelan states of Miranda and Anzoátegui. The moratorium, which began on September 15, was implemented to protect the biological development of the species.

Key fishing sectors included in the reactivation are Machurucuto and Brisas del Valle in Miranda, and Fernández Padilla, Boca de Uchire, El Hatillo, Las Bateas, Puerto Píritu, and Santa Rosa in Anzoátegui.

The Instituto Socialista de la Pesca y Acuicultura (INSOPESCA) mandates that all artisanal fishers must hold valid permits and use selective technology to ensure responsible harvesting and protect accompanying marine fauna.
