Venezuela energizes Termocarabobo plant, adding 150‑600 MW after quake

On Friday, Venezuelan officials began the energization process at the Termocarabobo thermoelectric plant, aiming to bring its first 150 MW online by Saturday, July 18. Vice President of Public Works and Services Juan José Ramírez and Energy Minister Rolando Alcalá inspected the site, highlighting the rapid rehabilitation of high‑voltage transformer bushings—an achievement they described as unprecedented.

The plan calls for an additional 150 MW to be added within two weeks, with continuous 24‑hour work intended to reach a total of 600 MW before the end of August. Governor Rafael Lacava confirmed that recovery work is proceeding day and night, with Corpoelec staff restoring the plant’s full capacity after the June 24 double earthquake that disabled the entire 600 MW installation.
