Venezuela engineers start forensic inspections after June 24 quakes

A month after the June 24 seismic events, the College of Engineers of Venezuela (CIV) has deployed more than 8,000 engineers and technicians nationwide to conduct forensic examinations of collapsed and damaged structures. CIV President Félix Ojeda Oropeza said the priority is “to evaluate the buildings immediately to guarantee the physical safety and integrity of people” and to determine whether failures stem from the extraordinary magnitude of the quakes or from design, material or code violations. The findings will inform authorities on which buildings require reinforcement, repair or demolition.

In the municipality of Guaicaipuro, Mayor Farith Fraija announced that local technical‑structural inspection brigades—comprising civil engineers, civil‑protection officials and operational staff—will operate under a unified technical criterion set by the Presidential Commission and regional government. The teams have intensified field inspections, produced technical reports and placed risk‑level tags (green, yellow, red) on evaluated properties, preparing for the next phase of repairs and ensuring community safety.
