Venezuela enters political transition following U.S. intervention

Following a military action by the United States on January 3 that resulted in the removal of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores from Venezuela, the country has entered a period of political and economic transition. Under the leadership of an interim president, efforts are underway to restore normalcy to work and education, though Caracas continues to see growing demonstrations.

Political leader Enrique Márquez has advocated for a three-phase transition plan promoted by the United States. Márquez argues that dismantling the existing institutional apparatus is necessary to address corruption and inefficiency. He notes that seven months of U.S. tutelage have seen the arrival of American companies, the release of some political prisoners, and the election of new Supreme Court magistrates.

Márquez emphasizes that Venezuela's future is linked to North America and that reconstruction will be a long process due to the deep destruction of national institutions and the economy. While some progress in judicial sanitation has been noted, the country remains socially divided and faces significant challenges in institutional response capabilities.
