Venezuela experiences 4.4 magnitude earthquake near Delta Amacuro

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Delta Amacuro, Venezuela, on September 3 at 7:15 p.m. According to Funvisis, the epicenter was located 32 kilometers southeast of Pedernales and 46 kilometers from Güiria, at a depth of 9.3 kilometers. No injuries or damages have been reported from this specific tremor.

This seismic event follows the devastating double earthquake on June 24, which resulted in at least 6,500 deaths and left over 11,000 homes in high-risk condition. Funvisis has recorded more than 1,000 aftershocks since the June events, with high concentrations of activity noted in the central-north regions including Yaracuy, Carabobo, Aragua, La Guaira, and Miranda.

In Aragua, the Centro de Ingenieros (Ceinar) is warning against resuming classes in unsafe buildings. Following inspections of 1,945 structures, engineers identified 475 buildings with masonry damage and three schools in critical condition. The group is urging repairs before the school year begins on September 14 to ensure student safety.
